Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a viral infectious disease, and areas with inadequate sanitation are breeding grounds for it. China, Southeast Asia, South America, and parts of Africa are common locations of Hepatitis A cases.

There is no cure for hepatitis A at the moment, and the majority of treatment is to maintain a healthy body and a balanced diet, including restoring fluids lost via vomiting and diarrhea.

Hepatitis A can be prevented through good nutrition, personal and environmental hygiene, and hepatitis A vaccination in children.

Mode of transmission

Hepatitis A virus can survive in fresh or salt water for up to 12 months and in food for more than a few days, therefore infection can occur in the following ways:

Eating contaminated undercooked food, particularly shellfish.
Drinking water that has been contaminated with viruses and has not been appropriately treated.
Close contact to an infected patient.

Incubation time: 2 to 6 weeks

Hepatitis A Vaccine

Although there is no effective treatment for hepatitis A, the effect of vaccination is very remarkable.

 Vaccine Name

 Havrix 720

 Pharmaceutical company

 UK GSK

 Suitable for

Injection for children over 1 year old
Occasionally or frequently travel to Southeast Asia
Infants who have started eating high-risk foods

 Effective Prevention

The inactivated hepatitis A virus is the major component of the hepatitis A vaccination. After being injected into the human body, the vaccine stimulates the development of antibodies, resulting in protection to the hepatitis A virus.

 Vaccination period

Two injections are required, separated by six months, and the validity term is approximately ten years.

 Side effect

The most common side effects are moderate and include injection site soreness or swelling, headache, weariness, or lack of appetite.
Severe allergic responses are uncommon. Even individuals who already have antibodies will not be harmed by the injection, and their negative effects will not be exacerbated.
Injections can be given to people who have impaired immune systems or liver illness.

 Not suitable for

     People with fever
People who have previously had an adverse reaction to any of the vaccine's ingredients

 Precautions

It is advised that children receive their first and second doses of hepatitis A vaccine at the ages of 1 and 1.5.
It normally takes a month after the first dose of the vaccination for the body to produce enough antibodies to protect against the hepatitis A virus.
