What is seasonal flu?

Influenza is mainly caused by four types of influenza viruses circulating in the community. It is an acute respiratory disease and is mainly spread through droplets.
In Hong Kong, influenza is generally prevalent from January to March in winter and July and August in summer.
People with weakened immunity, such as children or the elderly, may be more seriously ill. Once infected with influenza, there is a chance of complications and even death.
Parents can arrange influenza vaccination for their children as early as 6 months old to prevent from influenza infection and complications.

How to prevent seasonal flu?

Pay attention to personal hygiene
Wash hands properly with soap and water
Wear a mask if you have symptoms of respiratory infection 

Keep the environment clean

Maintain adequate indoor air circulation. 


Vaccination
Influenza vaccination is one of the effective ways to prevent influenza and its complications
It is generally recommended to get the flu vaccine every autumn. Around two weeks after vaccination, the body will produce enough antibodies to fight the flu virus
Since influenza viruses mutate from time to time to generate new strains, WHO recommends the combination of influenza vaccines that should be used in the annual influenza season
